Phi­los­o­phy Statement


  • acknowl­edges the Abo­rig­i­nal and Tor­res Strait Islander Peo­ples of Aus­tralia, many of whom live in remote areas, as the first peo­ple of the Nation who have suf­fered and con­tin­ue to suf­fer the impact of colonisation.
  • believes those liv­ing in Aus­trali­a’s remote’ areas are enti­tled to access qual­i­ty Pri­ma­ry Health Care, includ­ing emer­gency clin­i­cal care, health pro­mo­tion and pub­lic health services.
  • believes that col­lab­o­ra­tion with­in and between health care pro­fes­sion­al groups, ser­vices and oth­er sec­tors which impact on health is fun­da­men­tal to effec­tive qual­i­ty care and qual­i­ty health out­comes for remote populations.

Remote Health Professionals

  • are spe­cial­ist prac­ti­tion­ers who pro­vide and/​or coor­di­nate a diverse range of health care ser­vices for remote, dis­ad­van­taged and iso­lat­ed pop­u­la­tions with­in Aus­tralia and her Ter­ri­to­ries and who under­take appro­pri­ate edu­ca­tion­al prepa­ra­tion for their practice.
  • are guid­ed by health’ as a whole-of-life con­cept, encom­pass­ing phys­i­cal, spir­i­tu­al and emo­tion­al well-being of indi­vid­u­als, fam­i­ly, com­mu­ni­ty and the environment.
  • embrace codes of pro­fes­sion­al ethics that respect cul­tur­al safe­ty, the diverse range of social val­ues, beliefs and lifestyles and com­mit to deliv­er care regard­less of these dif­fer­ences. They adhere to stan­dards of prac­tice and aspire to pro­vide the high­est qual­i­ty of health care at all times, seek­ing to achieve improved health outcomes.
  • val­ue part­ner­ships with oth­er health pro­fes­sion­als, indi­vid­u­als, fam­i­lies, local com­mu­ni­ties and out­back towns to iden­ti­fy needs, plan care and eval­u­ate ser­vices. To fur­ther this, they work to facil­i­tate com­mu­ni­ca­tion between these pop­u­la­tions and both gov­ern­ment and non-gov­ern­ment organ­i­sa­tions. Advo­ca­cy and empow­er­ment are crit­i­cal strate­gies used to pro­mote health choic­es and self-determination.
